Experts Support FAA Recognition of Drones as Aircraft
WASHINGTON, DC – Brandon Torres Declet, CEO of Measure, the nation’s leading drone operator, today released the following statement after serving on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) UAS Registration Task Force:

“With nearly one million drones expected to be sold over this holiday season, now is the time to develop sensible regulations to assure the American public that drones are safe.”

“While serving on the Task Force with other leaders of the industry, we discovered it does not take much speed or weight for a drone to become lethal. We learned in the first eight months of this year alone, there were nearly 700 near miss collisions of drones with commercial aircraft. We cannot deny these facts – drones are operating in the national airspace and have to be treated as aircraft.”

“Our goal was to make sure consumers can enjoy the thrill of flying their drones without having to undergo a cumbersome registration process. The Task Force deliberated
carefully to develop a registration system that is easy to use, accessible to all, and protective of personal information. A simple, free online registration system will benefit all consumers and the industry as a whole, while representing a significant step forward in the development of reasonable regulations for drone use.”
